De la Mora es un artista multifacético, atrevido, explorador de ideas, curioso, minucioso y hasta obsesivo con su trabajo. Ha llevado sus obras a nivel internacional, algunas de ellas inspiradas en su familia y en la investigación científica del arte. Durante cinco años De la Mora ejerció la arquitectura hasta que tuvo un gran colapso familiar y a los 25 años abandonó esta profesión, para dedicarse de lleno al arte. A causa de esto y otras cosas más, su trabajo se relaciona a algunos acontecimientos familiares.
Lo curioso y atractivo de su obra es que utiliza diversos métodos artísticos nada tradicionales, basados en el interés por el coleccionismo, la deconstrucción de imágenes por medio del fuego, captura de espíritus en fotografías y hasta el uso o reuso de objetos obsoletos que parecen haber concluido su vida utilitaria, como es el caso de uñas y cabello humano como material primario.
Todo inició cuando cursaba sus estudios en Nueva York y comenzó a observar que su cabello se dispersaba y adelgazaba lo que despertó su interés por este elemento como material e empezó a recolectar cabello humano según su textura, color, grosor y tamaño. Ha realizado cientos de obras utilizado el cabello como línea de dibujo, haciendo con ellos efectos de contrastes. Las primeras piezas fueron retratos de sus sobrinos combinando el cabello natural con el sintético. Posteriormente las piezas cambiaron a ser conjuntos geométricos reorganizados y fragmentados, círculos, nudos y líneas rectas y onduladas. Los títulos de estas piezas aluden a la cantidad de cabello y de nudos que la componen.
Piezas como estas enfatizan la personalidad coleccionista y obsesiva del artista, son alegorías al elemento más íntimo, trabajó casi místico sobre una deconstrucción de este material a través del tiempo. "Le otorgo visibilidad al aura del objeto, comprimiendo su inmaterialidad, el cual, una vez removido de su narrativa previa y puesto en un contexto de exhibición, parece a su vez estar mirándonos". De la Mora is a multi-faceted artist, bold, explorer of ideas, curious, meticulous and even obsessive about his work. He has taken with works to an international level, some of them inspired by his family and the scientific investigation of art. For five years, De la Mora practiced as an architect, until he had a family collapse and therefore when he was 25 he abandoned this profession in order to dedicate himself to art. This is why his work is related to family events.
What is most interesting and attractive about his work is how he uses diverse artistic methods that are far from traditional, based on his interest for collecting, deconstructing images with fire, capturing spirits with photographs and even using obsolete objects that seem as if their utilitarian life has ended, such as fingernails and human hair as the main material.
It all began when he was studying in New York and discovered that his hair was scattering and thinning, which awakened an interest for this element as a material for his work, so he started collecting human hair according to texture, color, thickness and size. He has produced hundreds of works using hair as a line of drawing, creating contrasts with it. The first pieces where portraits of his nephews, combining human hair with synthetic hair. Later, his pieces changed and became rearranged and fragmented geometric compositions, circles, knots and lines straight and wavy. The titles of these pieces come from the amount of hair and knots they are made of.
Artworks like these emphasize the artist's personality, collector and obsessive, with a very intimate element, it is an almost mystical work about the deconstruction of the material through time. "I grant visibility to the object's aura, compressing its immateriality, to which, once removed from its previous narrative and placed in an exhibition context, it seems as it is observing us".
